Things to Come

Sometimes it's so hard to predict what the future will hold. Other times, it's almost eerie how accurate your predictions can be. After months of uncertainty, what the future holds for me is slowly becoming a little bit more clear.

When I graduated from Syracuse University back in May, my heart was set on becoming a member of the writing team for World Wrestling Entertainment. I was convinced that, if only I were given the chance to prove myself, I could make the best of it and really make a name for myself on camera and off. Of course, things rarely work out as planned, and after months of trying, I'm wondering if my immediate future really does involve my lifelong favorite variation on the theme of sports.

A couple of weeks ago, it dawned on me that I should *probably* broaden my horizons, so I sent out my resume to a bunch of didn't people, but the only ones who seemed interested were those who wanted me to sell their products. What can I say? I have a way with people :-) What really bummed me out is that I sent my resume to Neopets.com, just for the heck of it, and didn't even receive a response, which is kind of sad considering I run one of the oldest and most trusted Neopets fan sites on the Internet today. Oh well, I guess I could always be a site monitor from 3-11 AM every morning...

But anyways, the other day I received a text message from one of my best friends, Cecile, who has been working on the TLC program "Miami Ink." Since the show finishes shooting in December, we've decided to spend the holidays with our respective families, and then once January comes, we're off to Los Angeles to see what fate has in store for us. Fortunately, she has connections (and by she, I mean Cecile, not fate), so we may be able to find a nice place to live and maybe even get work on a half-way decent TV show or movie shortly after we arrive. Or, we may just spend a month or so collaborating on some interesting story ideas in case we ever want to pitch something in the future. Either way, I can't wait for 2008! Hey, that rhymed... I wonder if I should copyright it...

So, that's what the big picture looks like for me for the next few months. Since I'll be sticking around home for a while with no real work to do aside from a couple minor part-time jobs, I *should* have plenty of time to work on my numerous other projects which are featured prominently on this site. Just for the heck of it, here's what the future holds for them, too.

The Neopets Hive - By far the most successful of all of my endeavors, the Neopets Hive has actually made somewhat of a comeback over the past month or so. I guess there is something to be said for absolute boredom afterall! I've fixed a lot of the problems with the site that were caused last summer when our served decided to delete all of the images I had spent two months custom making for a plot, in addition to several pages which took me a few days to complete (as opposed to a few minutes or hours like most pages do). I also completed a guide that my poor visitors had to wait a whole year for, and began work on a new feature called "Defenders of Mirror World - The Series."

It only recently dawned on me that the Neopets Hive has been online for five years (as of November), so needless to say, I was suddenly motivated to put some extra effort into the site. As a result, visitors can look forward to the first mission of the Defenders Series (hopefully sometime this week), as well as a logic puzzle called the "Trick-or-Treak Challenge" in the middle of October. I'm still trying to figure out what the heck I can possibly do to celebrate the site turning five in November, because as hard as I try, I simply can't think up another whole Mirror World plot, even with two months notice. One way or another, though, I'm sure I'll think of something.

USS Frontier - Well, after a year of simming, a few months in the command chair of somebody else's ship, a few months of inactivity, and a few months on an all new ship of my own, my fellow simmers have finally realized just how talented my crew and I really are, and as such, we've been made the Flagship of an entire Task Group. Yes, I am fully aware that 97% of all people reading this site will have absolutely no idea what 72% of those words just meant, but that's okay, you don't have to.

For those that do understand, but moreso for those who actually care, this means that things are going to be a little more strict on the simm from Mission Three on, since we are now expected to set an example for others in our fleet and our Task Group. Department Heads will have more responsibilities, more content may very well be added to the site, and the Command Staff will be working harder to ensure that each mission is as much fun for everyone as it can possibly be.

Granted, I'll have a lot more responsibilities now, but just like with the Neopets Hive, now that something really special has happened, my interest in making the site the best has skyrocketed to new level. So yeah, yay for both sites.

Raemet Productions - What can I say? I'm a very ambitious person. Before I leave, I'd like to create two entirely new intros for the two shows I'm currently directing on local access cable - "The Inside Scoop" and "Online Against Crime." There are also a few special episodes in the queue, but something that's recently piqued my interest is the prospect of getting a new set designed and built for the TV studio, one which eliminates the very dated and limited set all of the local access shows currently have. Will I succeed? Who knows, but I would absolutely LOVE to contribute something special like that to the community before I go.

Jayde - Gotta love her. This feisty vixen has been dying to get a couple more performances under her belt, and, me being her manager, I can't help but want to put on as big a performance as possible when the time comes. Unfortunately, now that we're both out of college, our resources (specifically, back-up dancers and venues) are severely limited, so even getting a small night of performances off the ground is a huge undertaking.

Before I go to Los Angeles, I've promised the locals that they can expect at least a one-night-only appearance from Jayde somewhere and somehow. What numbers is she gonna do? I have no idea. We've got no back-up dancers or eye-candy in the area, so the number has to be something she can do herself. On the plus side, any of her old numbers will fly here because nobody's ever seen 'em before. Then again, people wanna see something new, so again, I have no idea what's gonna happen, but as soon as I do, you'll all be the first to know.

Speaking of Jayde, the question that's on everybody's mind (I wish, haha) is, "Will Jayde be performing at the 2008 Totally Fabulous Show?" While I would absolutely love to say yes, the fact of the matter is, I have no idea what the planning committee has in mind for next year's show, nor do I know what my schedule or Jayde's will be like, nor do I know if we'd even be able to pull a huge number or two off like we did last year (again, because we're not actually in college anymore and therefore don't have regular contact with the vast number of people we'd need to pull them off).

Ideally, I'd like to somehow find a way to get two huge numbers in the show in addition to a surprise duet with another major performer from last year. Like last year's "Hips Don't Lie" number, both of next year's solo performances could require numerous back-up dancers and extensive choreography, but if we did somehow manage to pull them off, they'd be INCREDIBLE! Just my opinion, haha.

So yeah, that's my future in a nut-shell. Big hopes, big dreams... bigger credit card bills. Gotta love it, right?
